Easter Weekend FAQ

ARE ALL THE SERVICES IDENTICAL?
Yes! We wanted to provide five opportunities for you to attend and invite the people in your life to join you! Join us Saturday at 4pm or 5:30pm, or Sunday morning at 8am, 9:30am, or 11am.

WHAT ABOUT THE SUNRISE SERVICE?
The Sunrise Service is a unique opportunity to gather in a more intimate setting outside to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus with a short message and worship. The experience is meant to reflect the morning of the resurrection when Jesus' followers traveled to the tomb early in the morning and discovered he was alive again. We will see you at 6:30 am on the FBC parking lot!
HOW CAN I OBSERVE GOOD FRIDAY?
We are providing a virtual devotional with Pastor Justin to reflect solely on the crucifixion. You can find that resource right here or receive it via email by signing up to receive our regular newsletter!

I'M ATTENDING SATURDAY. HOW CAN I INTENTIONALLY CELEBRATE EASTER SUNDAY AS WELL?
We are excited to provide you with a family Easter Sunday devotional as well. As with Good Friday, you can find that here on this page, or receive it via email by signing up to receive our regular newsletter!

Holy Week Quiet Time Guide

Quiet Time Suggestion: We encourage you to read the passage, record (write down any verses that stand out to you), then watch the video, and utilize the reflection questions.

Palm Sunday

John 12: 12-19
12 The next day the large crowd that had come to the feast heard that Jesus was coming to Jerusalem. 13 So they took branches of palm trees and went out to meet him, crying out, “Hosanna! Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord, even the King of Israel!” 14 And Jesus found a young donkey and sat on it, just as it is written, 15 “Fear not, daughter of Zion; behold, your king is coming, sitting on a donkey's colt!” 16 His disciples did not understand these things at first, but when Jesus was glorified, then they remembered that these things had been written about him and had been done to him. 17 The crowd that had been with him when he called Lazarus out of the tomb and raised him from the dead continued to bear witness. 18 The reason why the crowd went to meet him was that they heard he had done this sign. 19 So the Pharisees said to one another, “You see that you are gaining nothing. Look, the world has gone after him.”
Reflection:
  • Scripture says that Jesus set his eyes toward Jerusalem fully aware of what was to come. Reflect on the love and willingness he allowed us to see by knowingly walking into that city where he would encounter persecution and crucifixion on your behalf.
  • Reflect on the fact that Jesus condescended (to descend to a less formal or dignified level; to waive the privileges of rank) not only to an incarnate state but to the point of death for those he created and what it means to worship a Savior and God that would be willing to do that.

Monday

Reflection:
  • Reflect on the holiness of Jesus in comparison to our depravity.
  • Reflect on the fact that if you have believed in Jesus as your Savior and repented of your sin, that he has cleansed you of that sin.
  • Pray for the Holy Spirit to reveal any places where you need to invite Jesus in to your existing, unconfessed sin and repent. Then rest in the fact that scripture says that "If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness." 1 John 1:9

Matthew 21:12-22
12 And Jesus entered the temple and drove out all who sold and bought in the temple, and he overturned the tables of the money-changers and the seats of those who sold pigeons. 13 He said to them, “It is written, ‘My house shall be called a house of prayer,’ but you make it a den of robbers.” 14 And the blind and the lame came to him in the temple, and he healed them. 15 But when the chief priests and the scribes saw the wonderful things that he did, and the children crying out in the temple, “Hosanna to the Son of David!” they were indignant, 16 and they said to him, “Do you hear what these are saying?” And Jesus said to them, “Yes; have you never read, “‘Out of the mouth of infants and nursing babies you have prepared praise’?” 17 And leaving them, he went out of the city to Bethany and lodged there. 18 In the morning, as he was returning to the city, he became hungry. 19 And seeing a fig tree by the wayside, he went to it and found nothing on it but only leaves. And he said to it, “May no fruit ever come from you again!” And the fig tree withered at once.
20 When the disciples saw it, they marveled, saying, “How did the fig tree wither at once?” 21 And Jesus answered them, “Truly, I say to you, if you have faith and do not doubt, you will not only do what has been done to the fig tree, but even if you say to this mountain, ‘Be taken up and thrown into the sea,’ it will happen. 22 And whatever you ask in prayer, you will receive, if you have faith.”

Tuesday

John 12:20-28
20 Now among those who went up to worship at the feast were some Greeks. 21 So these came to Philip, who was from Bethsaida in Galilee, and asked him, “Sir, we wish to see Jesus.” 22 Philip went and told Andrew; Andrew and Philip went and told Jesus. 23 And Jesus answered them, “The hour has come for the Son of Man to be glorified. 24 Truly, truly, I say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone; but if it dies, it bears much fruit. 25 Whoever loves his life loses it, and whoever hates his life in this world will keep it for eternal life. 26 If anyone serves me, he must follow me; and where I am, there will my servant be also. If anyone serves me, the Father will honor him.
27 “Now is my soul troubled. And what shall I say? ‘Father, save me from this hour’? But for this purpose I have come to this hour. 28 Father, glorify your name.” Then a voice came from heaven: “I have glorified it, and I will glorify it again.” 29 The crowd that stood there and heard it said that it had thundered. Others said, “An angel has spoken to him.” 30 Jesus answered, “This voice has come for your sake, not mine. 31 Now is the judgment of this world; now will the ruler of this world be cast out. 32 And I, when I am lifted up from the earth, will draw all people to myself.” 33 He said this to show by what kind of death he was going to die. 34 So the crowd answered him, “We have heard from the Law that the Christ remains forever. How can you say that the Son of Man must be lifted up? Who is this Son of Man?” 35 So Jesus said to them, “The light is among you for a little while longer. Walk while you have the light, lest darkness overtake you. The one who walks in the darkness does not know where he is going. 36 While you have the light, believe in the light, that you may become sons of light.”
When Jesus had said these things, he departed and hid himself from them. 37 Though he had done so many signs before them, they still did not believe in him, 38 so that the word spoken by the prophet Isaiah might be fulfilled:
“Lord, who has believed what he heard from us,
and to whom has the arm of the Lord been revealed?”
Reflection:
  • The authority of Jesus was challenged over and over by the religious leaders who refused to accept that he was who he claimed to be, and yet he walked willingly to the cross for them. Reflect on the fact that Jesus died on the cross for you long before you existed, long before you believed in him, and while you were still living in sin he loved and saved you.

Wednesday

Matthew 26:14-16
14 Then one of the twelve, whose name was Judas Iscariot, went to the chief priests 15 and said, “What will you give me if I deliver him over to you?” And they paid him thirty pieces of silver. 16 And from that moment he sought an opportunity to betray him.
Reflection:
  • Reflect on the sinful reality that led to the betrayal of Jesus and how our own sin separates us from Jesus?
  • Reflect on the fact that we have a Savior that was despised and rejected by those he came to save.

Thursday

Hebrews 12:1-2
Therefore, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us also lay aside every weight, and sin which clings so closely, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us, 2 looking to Jesus, the founder and perfecter of our faith, who for the joy that was set before him endured the cross, despising the shame, and is seated at the right hand of the throne of God.
Reflection:
  • What does it mean that we have a Servant King and why does that matter?
  • How does it impact your life and your worship to know that Jesus willingly walked to the cross for you?

Good Friday

We've designed this devotional as a tool to gather with your roommates, family, friends, or use this as a personal quiet time. We have included reflection questions where you can pause the video to journal or discuss.
